Every website needs a home - a hosting account. You can do your research on the Web and you will find a lot of hosting providers. How to choose the right one?
There are 3 types of hosting for you to consider:
1. Free hosting - there are no monthly charges to have your website listed on the Web, but the down side is the advertisements, such as Google AdSense ads, that will be placed on your website front page. Also your disk space and bandwidth will be very limited. Free hosting providers will not allow your own domain name, instead you will have to use a sub-domain for your site.
2. Shared hosting - the most affordable way for the beginner users to have their sites listed on the Web. This service has many websites residing on the one web server. The server can handle hundreds of thousands of websites, as long as they have a low bandwidth. Shared hosting works fine for personal sites, small businesses, as most shared hosting providers allow you to have more data transfers, disk space and e-mail accounts.
3. Dedicated hosting - this service allows you to rent the entire server, which is managed by the provider you are buying from. It offers high security features, a large disk space and a good deal of bandwidth. It is the perfect solution for a large company.
So when choosing your web host, please look at these important parameters - reliability of the host ( 99% up time, no server crashes ), bandwidth ( the amount of the information transferred from your site to the users, when they browse your site ), disk space ( the most sites only need 10 MB space to start with ), tech support is highly recommended and many hosting providers have 24 hour a day technical support waiting to assist you.
Other functions you need to consider having are: SSL ( secure server ) for the sites planning on having some sort of business and using shopping carts, payment gateways, control panel allows you to make changes to your sites and update or delete files and payment plans, as some hosting providers have monthly, quarterly or annual payment plans.
